If I want to go to graduate school for a professional program such as PT or OT, can I use Practicum for observation hours that I need for my application?

No. You will graduate with a B.S. in Exercise Science. Practicum is not intended to serve as observation in healthcare disciplines such as physical or occupational therapy, athletic training, nursing, physician assisting, etc. You are welcome to include observation opportunities into your World Ready portfolio - see Breen Center.

I don't know what I want to do ... What do I do?

It is more than okay to still be unsure of your professional path. Exploring the Internship Categories and known options, talking with peers and professors and shadowing at several facilities you might consider interning at are all acceptable methods of determining your path.

How do I know how many Internship credits to register for?

Internship requirements are 600 hours or 6 credits. We are still working with the Registrar to determine the best/most appropriate way to register for Internships, especially when some may be full-time and others part-time. What I can tell you is you will register for6 credits.

What are ‘approved’ Practicum sites and where can I find the list?

Approved Internship sites are facilities that have accepted LVC EXSC students in the past and meet the expectations of INternships for student supervision, learning opportunities, agree to fairly evaluate the students’ performance and have a signed contract on file.

If I want to go to a Internship site that is not on the list, what do I do?

After you have met with your advisor and you know what you want to get out of your Internship experience, research and contact sites that will meet your individual learning and experience goals. After you have spoken with the site AND they agree to offer a learning opportunity, provide the following to the FPC: the facility name and weblink, contact name, phone#, e-mail address, and a brief description of the site and why you want to complete your Internship with them.
